A New Take On Animal Prints

January 24, 2012

At first glance I wasn’t sure if I loved these prints or if I was a wee bit creeped out.  I spent some time really looking at them and realized, yup, it’s love.  I tend to be drawn to muted colors and I have always loved art that makes you look twice.  These prints rocking both of those categories.  The artist has a shop on Etsy called Frighten if you’d like to stop over and peruse the rest of the amazing art.

Deer Art Print, Altered Civil War Portrait, Violet

Boston Terrier Dog Art Print

Cat Art Print, Kitten Girls Altered Civil War Portrait

Lamb Art Print, The Farmer’s Daughter

A bit more information directly from the artist Mari.

My name is Mari Lowery and I’m a photographer and mixed media artist from New York. I have another shop here on Etsy for my photography, but this shop focuses on my mixed media work, more specifically the antique and vintage photos that I have digitally restored and altered in one way or another.

Animals have been a very important part of my life since I was born, so to me it seems natural that I would incorporate them into my work as an artist. I started collecting and altering vintage and antique photos beginning in early 2007, but as I got more involved in photography, most specifically with a film camera called a Holga, I had a lot less time to work on the portraits.

In 2010, I resumed my work with the portraits, and at this point, it’s become the focus of my artistic work, more so than photography. I have such an affinity for these old portraits, and while restoring them can be time consuming, coming up with ideas of how to transform them is a lot of fun.

  Coalesse Andoo Table

January 19, 2012

It’s  been a while since I gave some love to my favorite table, the Andoo Table from Coalesse.  When I day dream about eventually having really nice dining furniture this is the table that always gets featured.  I love the simplicity and clean lines, but I’m also blown away by the detailing.  It has the look of a parson’s table but there is so, so much more going on.

Just look at that detailing!!!

Because I know you are all sitting here reading this post wondering, “But what kind of chairs would Erin put around this table!?!”.   Rest easy folks I’m going to tell you.  I haven’t 100% decided on the exact model of chair but I do know the aesthetic.  I’m thinking either the Eames molded plastic chair, armless for the majority of the chairs and the arm chair for the heads of the table.

Or… and I know this is a bit crazy, the Verneer Panton chair in white.  I’ve written about this little guy before.  I just love him.

Look, pretty, pretty, pretty.

For those of you, like me, that might not have about $10k to drop on a table and chairs you can always get the same look by shopping at West Elm.  They’ve even featured their Parson’s Dining Table with white plastic chairs.  Butterflies aside, how great are they!

  Just Hanging Around. Stalking Anthropologie…

January 10, 2012

… and I came across this love-bug of a chair.  It’s not for everyone but if money wasn’t an object how fun would this be for a playful chair in an office.

Anthropologie: Bertram Chair, Florence

Obviously you would need just the right space for this and it would need to be mellowed out/complimented with just the right surroundings.  I’m thinking the Hayes Console from Mitchell + Gold would work nicely as the desk.

  Green Bird Press

January 9, 2012

In honor of my coffee date this afternoon I’m featuring the adorable Eames Chair Letterpress Cards from Green Bird Press.  I have long been a fan of Charles and Ray Eames’ furniture designs.  They are truly classic and timeless.  If you are unfamiliar with their history the Herman Miller website is fabulous resource for information and images… not to mention a place to buy your very own.  Just in case you were wondering if I had to pick just one of these chairs to own and love for the rest of my life it would, of course, be the Eames Lounge and Ottoman in White Ash.

Green Bird Press Eames Chair Letterpress Card Story
Since Green Bird Press is based out of a mid-century modern house we felt the need to honor one of the great design teams of the twentieth century with our first collection. So we created magnesium plates featuring silhouettes based on the well-known furniture designs of Charles and Ray Eames and printed them on Eames Furniture paper.

Eames Furniture paper is a product developed in collaboration with the Eames office, it has a wonderfully unique woven texture mimicking that found in their original furniture designs, and it is made with a minimum of 30% post consumer fiber and a manufacturing process that uses non-polluting renewable energy. It couldn’t be more perfect!

We also couldn’t resist creating a design based on the Eames House Bird, one of many objects collected by the couple during their travels. This black wooden bird, a piece of American folk art from the Appalachian Mountains stood in the center of their living room for over fifty years and appeared in many of their photographs. It’s as well known as many of their own designs. Check additional listings for this card.

  A Fabulous Substitute

December 5, 2011

I was perusing the Anthropologie’s website, as I am often known to do, and was having fun day dreaming in the furniture section when I came across this lovey:

Diette Sofa Tufted

It immediately reminded me of the gorgeous sofa from the second Sex and the City movie (one of the few redeeming parts of the movie). I know, I know the one in the movie is blue and the Anthropolgie one is brown… but come on…. it’s pretty darn close!

While I’m dreaming I might as well finish off the room, so here goes…. I’m always a sucker for a Saarinen coffee table.  I think the white marble top version would go nicely with my chocolate sofa:

Available at Hive Modern

I’ve already broken the bank with the sofa and coffee table so I thought I’d take it back into this gal’s reality and finish off the seating with two side chairs and a a patterned ottoman from West Elm:

Essex Dhurrie Ottoman

Sweep Upholstered Armchair

You can’t have a room without a rug.  This pretty from Room and Board will add a nice amount of texture to the room without overwhelming the space.

Gate Rugs

You must, must, must have great lighting to make a room complete.  I’ve been obsessed with the wares from South of Market in Atlanta ever since I was in design school.  My hubby hates my obsession with glass lamps but my love for them will never waiver.

Hourglass Table Lamp

Every room needs some art and color.  I’ve been slowly becoming more and more obsessed with yellow. There is no way I could pull off wearing this color so I’ve decided to start designing with it.  I just now fell in love with this print from Mitchell+Gold.

Western Aspens

Enjoy my Monday day dream everyone.

I had the pleasure to have worked closely with Erin for the past year, and was constantly coveting her wardrobe selections! She truly has a sense for all things pretty, whether it is at the scale of a large commercial interiors space, or as detail-oriented as the perfect fashion accessory. Needless to say, her enthusiasm for style and design is contagious, and I am excited to be a part of this incredible blog!

I wanted to share a few things that I have recently been drooling over. While they may not be relevant to one another, they are all individually delicious! And in the spirit of this weekends shopping splurges, I will share a great gift idea for the pretty girl on your list!

This is such an adorable bracelet by Hive and Honey. I recently discovered it on Piperlime, and it is a great steal, at just $28!

While looking for an interesting mosaic tile, I came across this exquisite ikat mosaic by New Ravenna. I have an absolute obsession with the textural beauty that ikat can add to a space, so this is a favorite for me!

Have a holiday party to attend this year? Dazzle them with this stunning geometric sequins dress by Alice and Olivia.

Finish the holiday look with a pair of luscious red satin flats like these from J Crew.

  Coffee Talk

November 8, 2011

Heading out for coffee with one of my favorite people.  In honor of our coffee and catching up I posted my favorite product that she reps, the Swedese Tree 194 from Hightower Furniture!  All you Boston design folks, make sure to check out this product.  You can never go wrong with something that can be both art and functional.  I know they dig them over at Bliss.  See you soon Amy.
