Loving this image of bangles available at J Crew right now. I literally want every last one of these. Wearing them all together may be a bit much… but just a bit. This styling inspired me to look for more lovely blue:

I’ve been having a love affair with the Eames Molded Plastic Chairs lately. I can’t stop day dreaming about eventually owning a set for my dining room. I’ve decided on the white armless, but I can’t decide between the wood dowel base or the metal Eiffel base. Decisions… decisions…
Yes ladies and gentlemen I am watching The Bachelor. I managed to go years and years proudly announcing that I had never watched the show and last season I got sucked in and now I’m a full fledged addict of the show. However I did stop short of watching The Bachelor Pad so for the moment I can feel less than completely embarrassed of my TV watching habits. Feel free to begin judging me now. I have already spent way to much time and brain power thinking about, and talking about, who I think Ben will end up with (Kacie B of course) and an equally ridiculous amount of time complaining about how awful Courtney has been… can we say intentional acting on her part to get famous and very specific editing to keep the show interesting.
I won’t waste any more of my precious readers time discussing my views on this salacious brain rotting entertainment, but I will share some photos of the amazing interiors (well done Patricia Urquiola) to the W Hotel Retreat & Sap Vieques Island, the location of this weeks episode. Stunning! As Liz Lemon would say, “I want to go to there”.
If you loved the style of The W and you would like to interpret some of theme into a room, or two, of your home I’ve compiled a selection of items below that I believe pick up on the flavor of the design. Beware, some of these items are very affordable and some are a bit ridiculous, but I can guarantee that they are all lovely.
Morosso: Tropicalia by Particia Urquiola
Hive Modern: Arne Jacobson Swan Sofa
Crate and Barrel: Ginger Blue Side Table
Hive Modern: Lipstick Lounge Chair
Angela Adams: Ocean Hand-Tufted Wool Rug
CB2: Q White Pillow
Pillows and Throws: FJS Pillow Ikat
West Elm: Small Wire Pendant
Crate and Barrel: Driftwood Mirror
Jonathan Adler: Jere Raindrops Scultpture
West Elm: Organic Cotton Pintuck Duvet and Shams
Here’s a glimpse of the fun I’ve been having on Pinterest the past few days. If you want to follow me click here.
Finishing our guest bedroom is something I’ve been day dreaming about for the past five months. The irony is that we’ve only had a guest bedroom for about five months and one week. We had been living in one bedroom apartments for the past… forever… and we finally upgraded to a multi-room house that enabled us to dedicate a room to guests. We have the most important part of the room completed, the bed. We have also added bedside tables and lamps which we felt were necessities so our guests could have a place to put their water glass and cell phone… and you know so they would be able to see when it’s dark outside.
Existing Bed Frame
Ikea: Malm (dark stain)
Existing Tables and Lamps (I’m using a very simple light color shade for the lamps)
Table: Pier One Anamati Three Tear Mosaic Table
Lamps: Target Silver Mercury Glass Lamp
But now it’s time to add some charm and character to the room. As a couple we traveled to Kyoto Japan about four years ago and picked up a few pieces of local art which we’ve since had framed and the three pieces are now hanging in the guest bedroom. The primary colors of the art are a deep coral, navy blue and a lighter sky blue. I wanted to embrace these colors with the softer accents in the room, like the bedding, rug, drapery and fine a few hard accessory items.
The Rug (desired color on the left, reference image on the right)
It’s hard to tell, but I’m pretty sure the rug is brighter than this images leads us to believe, but this is the general look that I’m after.
Garnet Hill: Bogart Flat Weave Wool Rug
The other option for the rug brings out a bit more of a tangerine vibe than a coral vibe. I would have to visit it in person.
West Elm: Iznik Dhurrie
The Bedding. I’m thinking that monogramming an “H” on the pillow cases. Could be cute, could be way too preppy for the room.
Lands End: Navy and White Hotel Bedding and Sheets
A throw blanket to tie it all together
Pillows and Throws Unison Harper Poppy Throw
The color might be a bit too snappy, so I would want to also take a look at this orange throw after the rug came arrived.
I could also have a bit of fun and add another pattern into the mix. We all know I’m not afraid to layer patterns, but the orange may not be rich enough, again I would have to wait to see what the exact color of the rug turns out to be.
Jonathan Adler: Nixon Throw
For a bit of additional fun, and a space for a guest to layout all their accessories (make-up, jewelry, wallet, cell phones…)
CB2: CB2 Formosa Burnt Orange Side Table
Don’t forget the windows. With all the pattern and the dark walls (gray) that I already have in the room I want something light for the drapery.
West Elm: Luxe Window Panel
So, what do you think?!?
I felt the urge to design a room tonight and I decided why fight it? It all started with this rug:
It might help to see it in a room:
I loved this rug so much. I was inspired by the gray and yellow and white color scheme and it stared me thinking… what a fabulous color scheme for a bedroom. Yup, a bedroom. I’m going to run with that thought.
If you are going to design a bedroom you would need a bed, right? I’ve always had a thing for West Elm’s Day Bed:
This may not be quite enough lounging space for the room, so if you’ve got it (the room that is) why not toss in another double duty piece of loungy furniture:
If you don’t have enough room for a full out lay down lounge piece than an upright upholstered chair will do. I’m digging the vibe this rocker is sending out to me. Anyone else loving it?
Typically when I sit in a rocker I want to be able to rest my feet on something. There is also always the problem of not having enough space to pile your clothes. If you’ve filled up the rocker with discarded clothes and you need an additional spot to store your sartorial goods, why not an ottoman… or as I like to call them poofs:
Am I getting too matchy-matchy? Then let’s try some contrast:
As long as we’re working the contrast we might as well talk about more pattern for the room. I am a firm believer in layering patterns in a room. Not that I’ve had the budget to do this yet in my house, but don’t worry, it’s coming:
If you just can’t handle the pattern, then I recommend something a bit more solid in color but still super fun, seriously how is it possible that I don’t own this yet?!?!
At this point you may have clicked on the links or the images and be thinking, what the heck Erin why is almost everything from West Elm. Well, because they’re awesome and they continually inspire me and they just so happen to be working the whole gray, white, yellow thing. So here are two more images from West Elm that will work to dress up your window. The first is for those of you that aren’t afraid to layer patterns:
The second is for the folks that may need to go a bit more low key:
Again for the art… you can go a wee bit shocking but still subdued in terms of color:
Or you can keep rocking the contrast and pattern route:
If you’re are so inclined and you think you can handle a pendant light fixture then you can not go wrong with this little lovey, heck, why not add two over the Day Bed:
For the walls you can go light, medium or dark but no matter what they should at all times be painted gray:
And there you have it. My bedroom design for the night. Hopefully someone out there is now inspired to redo their master bedroom… or better yet keep the Day Bed look and redo a guest bedroom.
I am going to start off by saying that I’m not typically a huge fan of ultra-modern design for residential homes, but when that design is done well it can be absolutely stunning and Vera Wang’s new LA home is just that, stunning. Not to mention her slammin’ body in the poolside photo. This woman is 62 years old!!! I only wish that I will look that good in 30 years. Go Vera! I also have to note that her closet cracks me up… it’s amazing of course, a closet that every girl dreams of… but it’s filled with all black and muted tones! I’m sure some of this had to do with the photo shoot, but I’m guessing a larger part had to do with her personal style. My closet would be bursting with color and likely some ridiculous frills and ruffles if I had her shopping connections and budget.
