This was the very first book I purchsed when I started design school. I may never be as bold in my color choices or as fearless in my layering of patterns and objects, but I owe a lot of my love of design to the genius that is Kelly Wearstler.
When oh when will this gem find it’s way to my library?!? I already have Vicente’s first two books in my library, “Learning to See: Bringing the World Around You Into Your Home” and “Crossing Boundaries: A Global Vision of Design” and they are getting worn from my constant reading. Wouldn’t you agree that this designers needs to own the trifecta!
** Update** Style and Substance is now part of my library!!! I finally made the purchase when I was invited to the Tuesday Seminar Series at the Boston Design Center on June 8th featuring Margaret Russell. I look forward to having a personal introduction to the book. Hopefully there will be time for me to get it signed.
I always seem to have a long list saved in my Amazon Shopping cart, what a great little tool. Right now it is filled to the brim with design books I’m looking forward to enjoying. I think my next purchase will be “Style and Substance: The best of Elle Decor“. This books comes highly recommended by one of my favorite designers Vicente Wolf… how can I resist!
The other book that has caught my eye is “Vogue Living: Houses, Gardens, People”. I don’t know much beyond the fascinating cover and my general regard for Vogue. Anyone out there have a review they would like to share?
From the time I was little I’ve always loved reading, and as a designer I love collecting images that inspire me. During my first internship in the world of Interior Design I worked for a very talented woman who had the most spectacular library of design books. I was overjoyed. Her collection represented to me two of my greatest loves: reading and collecting.
During one of my firsts weeks of work I was asked to clean, re-shelf and organize the library. This was not a task but a treat. Her collection ranged from books of art, art history, travel and furniture design to the more traditional design books of modern day that showcase the work of Vicente Wolf and Rose Tarlow. As I dug my way through the stacks and stacks of books I created a list of my own of all those books that I promised myself would eventually live in my library.
My collection is still in its infancy, but I adore each book and I look forward to watching my collection grow. As a way to share my passion I have created a virtual Design Library that will showcase some of my favorite books and introduce new books that I hope to one day own. Enjoy!
