Since I’ve been spending so much more time at Starbucks lately I have decided that I need to find a healthy treat for when my tummy starts rumbling. I just switched over from my mocha to a peppermint tea… no more chocolate shots for this gal… well, at least for a while. One of my new finds that I’ve been loving is the “Two Moms In The Raw” granola bars. They have a delectable cinnamon flavor and they fill you up without making you feel sluggish. Be warned you have to participate in the eating of this granola bar. You jaw will definitely get a work out but it’s worth it.

The other good news is that the goji berry and blueberry granola bars are gluten-free, dairy-free, 100% organic and vegan. You really can’t go wrong!
Pretty, pretty, pretty, pretty…
With our first, gulp, snow storm on the way I have officially been living in my slippers at home. As I mentioned in an earlier post my parents are in town this weekend and my Mom has been eying my slippers with a bit of envy. I told her I would send her the link to where she could pick up a pair… but then I thought “Heck, why don’t I share the link with all my readers too!”. I know I’m no way original and one of many, many people that love their Ugg Dakota slippers, but that doesn’t make them any less awesome. Sometimes following the crowd works out just fine. Here they are, the best slippers around.
PS. They come in toddler version, OMG!
I wish, I wish, I wish I had some place party to attend. I’m thinking LRD (little red dress) plus these a slammin’ necklace and pumps and I’d be all set.
Hi Folks! Sorry for being absent the past few days. I’ve had my parents in town and we have been having so much fun exploring Maine together. It has been years and years and years since my Dad has been in the Maine area. Luckily we have a few leaves left up here for everyone to peep. Word on the weather street is that we have a big storm heading our way. Maybe that will mean that they have to stick around for a few more days. Fun! The one thing that I’ve realized having family up is that I could really use a few more comfy chairs for people to sit and visit. Here is one option I’m thinking about:
With the new office underway I’ve realized that I definitely need a new office chair. I’m already rockin’ my West Elm Green Parson’s desk so I need to have just the right chair that will be both functional, comfortable and also compliment my desk. During my hunting I came across this gorgeous little lovey… I think it could be just the thing:
This chair is from the uber cool Etsy shop Material Recovery, head over and check out the other fabulous items they have to offer. Here is some additional scoop on the chair from:
A longtime Material Recovery favorite, our lively recycledoffice chairs add life and joyful color to the everyday monochrome office space. These office chairs are made from refurbished 6o’s, 70′s and 80′s metal frames and are professionally upholstered with antique and vintage textiles.
Each chair is made from a one-of-a-kind antique textile. This faux printed ikat is from the late 1950′s. The glorious crimson red, deep purplish blue, pink, yellow and white silk cotton mix had a grosgrain texture and is piped around the seat bottom. The office chair was made in the early 80′s and the chromed metal is in mint condition. Another bones to this later model chair is that the height is adjustable buy twisting in one direction.
Six months ago our household grew by one member, we rescued an adorable young cat from the Animal Rescue League of Boston (an amazing organization with the most loving and helpful staff) and we named him Charlie. He has changed our lives for the better, adding so much humor into our day-to-day lives. I have never been a cat owner (roommate) before so I’ve been learning as we go. Some of the major lessons I’ve learned…
9 times out of 10 if you buy your cat a bed he will decide to sleep anywhere but said bed. Here are two beds I would purchase if Charlie would actually sleep in them from the awesome London based Mungo and Maud that I found on Apartment Therapy. As a designer these are both pretty enough to grace anyone of your rooms. The version on the left, Corduroy Hideaway Bed, looks like an ideal place for a feline to curl up inside during the chilly winter months.
My visions of Charlie snuggled up in one of these adorable beds were crushed when I realized that where Charlie will likely spend the long Maine winter months… is our bed. Yes he put himself to bed and pulled up the covers. I had nothing to do with this other than to take the picture.
Lesson number two, don’t assume that the very cute and super fun toy you buy your cat will actually be played with. I have spent quite a bit of time hunting down just the right toys, like the adorable ones from Mungo and Maude that I didn’t mind finding strewn about the house, to later realize that these toys are only being played with by me while Charlie sits near by with a bemused look on his face. I think that if I actually want to have a pet in my life play with these I would be better off sending them down to my parents dog…
…Since what I’ve found is that cats like babies and toddlers tend to be more interested in the mundane or exactly what you would prefer they didn’t play with. Here Charlie is helping me with packing and laundry, he entertained himself for hours.
The last tidbit that I’ve learned from being a new cat owner is all about the reality of cat litter. This was one of the big sticking points for me when we were discussing adopting a cat. I couldn’t quite wrap my head around the idea of an animal going to the bathroom inside the house. For a moment I thought about training him to use the toilet… but that seemed like way too much work and something I should save my willpower for to teach our kids. The compromise was converting a nice looking piece of furniture into the litter so at least when most people walked by, or even I walked by, my first thought wouldn’t be “Oh there’s the cats litter… yuck!”. My hubby, with all his crafty ability, helped to remove very neatly one side to this Pier One Dark Lindi Trunk. We then lined the inside with first a towel (as seen in pictures) and later custom fit carpet squares (it helps to be a designer and have unlimited access to these squares). Charlie immediately took to his litter. I’m sure most folks out there think I’m crazy… but heck I don’t care, I have a totally stylin’ kitty litter.
