I’ve been day dreaming about adding a new item to my household. I want a designated place that I can come home and drop my purse and collections from the day. I would love for that place to stop being the closest surface available and have it be a place that is designed solely to collect my goods… like an inanimate butler. On a whim I decided to visit the Storage + Organizationtab on West Elm’s site and I think I may have found my new butler… what do you think about the Ikat Woven Baskets? I think they could look fabulous nestled under my Green Parsons Desk.
The majority of the design work I do is for commercial projects, which means I tend to work in solid bands of color with only the occasional pattern seen in a subtle tone on tone wall covering or perhaps on one upholstered piece of furniture in a seating group in a lobby. It is rare that I get an opportunity to really play with pattern. Hopefully I will have a chance in the near future, and if I do I will definitely look to the work of infinitely talented Kelly Wearstler. She is a master of playing with bold patterns, textures and colors. My newest inspired images is from her project Pied A Terre. I hope you enjoy it as much I do.
Growing up one of my favorite times of year was the week before I went back to school. I have always been an organizer at heart and the ritual of getting all new school supplies was always exciting. It has been years since I had a back to school fall shopping trip, so this year I decided to treat myself to a few new items for my desk. I had been rocking an orange theme for the past two years that was centered around my staple West Elm magazine butlersin a bright orange that were complimented by a Kodak Gallery’s custom mouse pad made with a picture of the orange gates of Fushimi-Ku that I took during my trip to Kyoto three years ago. This was a tough scheme to beat but I think I’ve got a good new thing going with some treats from Mod4 Arts,SweetBeaker and The Container Store.
From SweetBeaker I bought two of her adorable Mod Dot Pencil Cups to help organize my many multi-color pens and my new Jonathan Adler highlighters. I was so impressed by the speedy response I got from SweetBeaker and the adorable packaging that the cups came with. As a special treat she even stuck in a complimentary Love Note piece of stationary. I think I have just the right Love to send the note to!

From the Mod4Art Etsy shop I purchased a fresh mouse pad in a bright and cheery green and white floral pattern. The colors work perfectly with my pencil cups.

In an effort to FINALLY organize my stacks of business cards I picked up one of the expandable business card holders from the Container Store. When I first opened up the business card holder I was in heaven. It was sleek and small and perfect. Then I tried putting in all my business cards and couldn’t stand the small slits I was supposed to shove the cards into to hold them in place. They kept tearing and driving me crazy. I almost gave up until I thought to forgo the pre-sliced too small tabs and just staple the cards to the paper. It worked like a charm!

I’m having one of those days where I’m craving something sugary sweet… but I’m also feeling a bit sassy. Thanks to Cake Opera Co. and Flavor Paper I can have both!
In my opinion one of the most mundane tasks in the world is doing the dishes. One of the ways I have found to make this task ever so slightly more fun is to set myself up with some fun accessories. My favorite place to buy all these dispensers, sponges and scrubbies is non other than The Container Store (too bad you can’t find every last thing there)!!!! Here are all the goodies I’m currently using:
Dobie Sponge (thanks Mom for this recommendation)
Bigelow Hand Soap (because it smells so pretty)
I’m hoping to add this little gem soon… I need to have a more permanent home for my Dobie Sponge. Plus anything from Good Grips makes me happy especially when it’s resides under the category sink organization:

Have you been searching for that perfect gift to bring to the bachelor in your life? Here’s one of my tried and true gifts that seems to always go over well for a new house/apartment warming gift and it only takes a few ingredients plus a fabulous bow.
Ingredient One: An airtight container from Crate and Barrel.
Ingredient Two: One kitchen hand towel from Anthropologie or Williams Sonoma.
Ingredient Three: Homemade chocolate chip cookies! (click on the picture or link to get the recipe).
Tollhouse Classic Chocolate Chip Cookies
Bake the cookies, tuck them away in the airtight container, fold up the new hand towel and place it on top of the container and then tie the whole thing up with a bow. Trust me your effort will be very much appreciated.
