Design Library: Domicilium Decoratus

July 15, 2010

That’s right folks here is another Kelly Wearstler book recommendation for your design library, Domicilum Decoratus.  You really can’t have too many of her books.  Each book holds so many stunning and inspiring photos.  This one is already in my library and I reference it frequently.

  Inspired: Unique Window Treatment

July 14, 2010

A special thanks to Westbrook Interiors for this truly inspiring approach to window treatments.  The blue shutters are jumping out of the photo at me.  I can only imagine how stunning they are in person.  I may also have to use the pillow color combination for my home.  I have the same draped casual fabric on my sofa and have been struggling on the selection of throw pillows.

Left or Right, It’s Real Simple

July 13, 2010

Are you curious if your organizational skills stem from the right or the left side of your brain?  Check out Real Simple’s article “Organizing your Personality“.  It wasn’t a huge surprise to me when I found out that I am a Left-Brainer.  I am most definitely  someone who thinks in words, does a lot of advance planning, and approaches challenges in a rational, linear way.  But there are times when I’m designing that I feel that my sense of style comes more  from the right side  of my brain.  This is the side that allows me to be a bit more visual when selecting the approach and colors behind a project.

  A Charitable Eames Hang-it-All

July 12, 2010

Every year the company that I work for hosts an auction to raise money for the Pan Mass Challenge, one of the countries largest athletic fund-raising events for Dana- Farber Cancer Institute through it’s Jimmy Fund in the form of a bike-a-thon.  I’m not much of a cyclist but I do like contributing to a good cause.  I felt that merely selling raffle tickets wouldn’t be enough of a contribution this year so I elbowed it out against a few of my colleagues and made a purchase in the silent auction.  Behold my new Eames Hang-It-All.

Although it was originally designed by Charles and Ray Eames to be a part of their children’s line, it has become an iconic mid-century accessory that has found a place in many homes outside the children’s playroom.  According to Herman Miller (one of the distributors of Eames furniture ) Charles and Ray Eames brought a sense of play to all their work, including the Hang-It-All. It took the everyday coat rack to a new place that was inventive and fun. More than just a conversation piece, the Hang-It-All holds anything that slips over its colorful hooks.
